An explanation of Sonnet CXXX

The poem I selected to analyze is definitely Sonnet CXXX (130) simply by William Shakespeare. This kind of poem can be seen as either a humorous tribute to his lover or maybe a way to mock other poets of his period. I say amusing because there is no use of over the top metaphors or allusions as he does not evaluate his wish to a goddess nor review her magnificence to rare and beautiful objects seen in nature. Sources to this kind of objects of perfection are most definitely present, but they are there to illustrate that his lover is much less beautiful. This is evident in the 1st quartet as he describes his lover in a rather outrageous fashion for enough time. My mistress' eyes are not like the sun

Coral is far more reddish than her lips' red:

If snow be white-colored, why then simply her breasts are gloomy;

If hairs be cables, black wires grow on her behalf head.

These are generally her alternatively plain physical traits: her eyes are not like the sun or in other words that they aren't warm, appealing and to a smaller extent, of the dark color. A comparison can be used in the second and third stanzas: her lips happen to be compared to a coral's reddish colored but nothing that catches your attention; her breasts will be of a gray-brown tone. This kind of reinforces the very fact that she is human rather than god-like. Her hair appears to be braided because the last stanza would suggest. The next quartet continues in the same vogue.

I have noticed roses damask'd, red and white,

But no this kind of roses see I in her face;

And in a few perfumes can there be more joy

Than in the breath that from my personal mistress reeks.

Shakespeare statements to have found pink roses, but this individual doesn't see that color in her cheeks. This is a pun since many poets of his time would seek or glorify this kind of attribute in women. Nevertheless, he does not put an excessive amount of emphasis on this kind of trait just like in the initial quartet, where he just constitutes a rundown of her characteristics. As for her breath, he may imply that she gets bad...
